Hughes Europe and CLA Team Up at the Royal Bath and West Show to Demonstrate Affordable ‘Broadband for All’

Milton Keynes, UK, 31 May 2011―Hughes Europe, the European subsidiary of the global leader in satellite broadband solutions, Hughes Network Systems, LLC (Hughes), and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) are joining forces at the Royal Bath & West Show (The Showground, Shepton Mallet, 1-4 June 2011) to demonstrate how satellite technology can provide rural communities in the region with effective, affordable broadband for the first time.

At the Show, Hughes Europe will enable those visiting the CLA stand to gain first-hand experience of satellite broadband by providing a solar-powered, two-workstation Internet café for visitors to access websites and send emails.

“Thanks to the latest Ka-band satellite technology, we are able to provide robust and viable broadband which meets the needs of more remote areas of the UK not served by terrestrial DSL or cable solutions,” said Christopher Britton, managing director, Hughes Europe.

The CLA has a membership of more than 28,000 small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), 25 per cent of whom do not have access to broadband. The Hughes initiative is designed to support the CLA’s drive to “put the ‘e’ back in the rural economy,” by helping those areas commercially disadvantaged by a lack of broadband availability.

Britton stated, “This solution means that everyone can benefit equally from consistent, high- performance broadband.”
