4G / LTE

4G Long Term Evolution refers to the fourth generation of mobile phone standards as set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). 4G LTE is the fastest speed that is widely available today, but the development of 5G will increase this and is predicted to be available around 2020.  4G LTE offers typical download speeds of 14Mbps with theoretical speeds of 150Mbps and upload speeds up to 8Mbps on average with theoretical speeds of 50Mbps at the very top end. 4G LTE Advanced, a faster version of 4G, has typical real world download speeds of 42Mbps with theoretical limits of 300Mbps and upload speeds of 30Mbps that can theoretically reach 150Mbps.

A well as higher download and upload speeds available with 4G deployments, 4G has a better response time than 3G due to lower latency. Although generally this will not have a visual impact for most services, this improved latency time, reduced from 120 milliseconds for 3G to 60 milliseconds for 4G, can make a significant difference for streaming and video based services.

In some countries we are also able to offer 4G LTE across LOS (line of site) connectivity where standard 4G mobile connectivity is not able to provide the data transfer speeds required for your business.

The Hughes 4G service can be used for a primary or backup connection alongside other connectivity like DSL.  We can also offer a rapid deployment service using 4G SIMs to quickly get you operational in the event of a network failure or as a temporary solution whilst you are waiting for a fixed line to be installed.
