Ethernet Services

For higher speed WAN connectivity Hughes Europe can deploy Ethernet-based service across the European region dependent on availability from local service providers and telcos. All Ethernet-based services are delivered over either existing copper cabling bonded together to achieve higher speed WAN connectivity or fibre cabling. There are four main variants of Ethernet services that Hughes can provide:

  1. EFM (Ethernet First Mile) - Between two and eight copper pairs are bonded to deliver synchronous Ethernet Speeds up to 34Mbps.
  2. DIA (Dedicated Internet Access) – High speed circuits using bonded copper from your site to cabinet in the street then fibre to exchange.  This service can provide speeds from 2Mbps up to 1Gbps.
  3. GEA (Generic Ethernet Service) – Uncontended dedicated circuit, GEA is delivered using bonded copper from your site to cabinet in the street then fibre to exchange. The exchanged traffic is then carried by Ethernet/MPLS circuits. This service can provide speeds of up to 20Mbps in both the downstream and upstream directions.
  4. Fibre – Uncontended high speed circuits using fibre cabling end to end.  The service can be provided on bearers of 10Mb, 100 and 1Gb, with different sub rate bandwidths available up to the limit of the bearer.
